Our History

The Church Steeple at Calvary Tabernacle
Calvary Tabernacle is rich in history, both in it’s people and it’s ministries. Calvary Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church was founded in 1982 in Seattle, Washington by Pastor Gary Blaylock and his family. In the beginning, services were held in the home of Pastor Blaylock. As the church membership increased, the congregation found it necessary to rent other facilities to hold services. In 1985, the congregation rented a facility from a local congregational church and continued to hold services at this location for the next eight years. On June 1, 1992, Calvary Tabernacle became incorporated in the State of Washington.

Calvary's Youth in Prayer
The church provides an Outreach Ministry for the purposes of:
- Introducing the church to residents of the local community via door-to-door visitation and direct mailings
- Turning first-time visitors into full-time attendees with new contact follow-up
- Providing in-home Bible studies. In 1983 the church established a Missions Ministry to support overseas missionaries with daily prayer and monthly financial support
In 1998 the church established the Foreign Fries Ministry for the purpose of remembering foreign missionary children on their birthdays. The Foreign Fries Ministry turned into Kids With Purpose and broadened it’s scope to teaching the kids more bout the countries and the missionaries within. The church Sunday School children, ages 10 and under, write letters and make cards to mail to the missionary children.

Marrieds Ministry Dinners
In 1999, Calvary Tabernacle called Nathan Boyd to serve the church as a Youth Minister and to assist with pastoral duties. In 2008 Nathan Boyd became the pastor of Abundant Life Apostolic Church in Olympia Washington. Shortly afterward Wade Plante and Jasen Reed joined the ministry team at Calvary Tabernacle as Outreach and Care ministry directors respectively.
